Hours & Appointments

Normal Clinic Hours

The office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday hours are reserved for emergencies and sick children only.

Appointments

All physicians in The Children's Clinic leave adequate space in the schedule to accommodate sick children who need to be seen the same day. The earlier you call for an appointment, the easier it will be to obtain a convenient time. If you need to have more than one child seen, please notify the office prior to your appointment.

Evening & Weekend Office Hours

One physician is scheduled to be in the office each evening Monday through Friday until 9:00 p.m. The purpose of these evening hours is to see emergencies and sick patients. Limited appointment times are available in the evening for well child exams and routine physicals. During evening office hours please phone for an appointment so you are sure the doctor is in the office and hasn't been called to the hospital. The office is also open for appointments from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. There will be only one physician on duty so we limit weekend appointments to ill children, rather than routine non-emergency problems.

Telephone Calls

During regular office hours, we always have a pediatric nurse available to answer your questions, make appointments or help you decide whether your child needs to be examined. Please feel free to call with questions about your child's health, nutrition, or development. If the nurse is unable to help you, she will refer your call to your pediatrician. If your problem is urgent, please tell the receptionist and your call will be handled immediately.

Night Calls

If you have an urgent situation after the office is closed, call The Children's Clinic at 562-2944. Your call will be answered by the pediatric night call nurse, who is trained in the telephone management of children's medical problems. If she determines that your child needs to be examined before our next regular office hours, or if she is unable to satisfactorily answer your question, she will call the The Children's Clinic pediatrician on call. If our patients need to be seen after hours, we recommend using Providence Hospital or Alaska Regional Hospital.

Emergencies

When true emergencies occur, they demand prompt attention. We suggest that in a true emergency the child's needs will be best served by taking him or her directly to the emergency room at Providence Hospital or Alaska Regional Hospital. For life threatening emergencies, call 911 and have trained paramedics transport the child rather than trying to transport him or her by yourself. Proper equipment and physicians trained in emergency care are available in both hospital emergency rooms 24 hours a day. Also, the hospital will know how to reach your physician when necessary. In the event of possible poisoning, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

For life threatening emergencies, call 911.
